Ein Foto von Mimi

Montag, 21. September 2026

Am Abend sitzt Max im Garten und möchte ein Foto von seiner Katze Mimi machen.
Sie ist hinter einem Baum, und er kann sie nicht sehen.
Zuerst ruft er: „Mimi, ich habe Fisch für dich gekauft!“
Nichts passiert, und er wartet weiter auf sie.
Dann macht er die Dose mit dem Fisch auf.
Mimi kommt sofort zu ihm, und er kann endlich das Foto machen.

Grammar / Notes

  • zuerst / dann / danach / später Sequencing adverbs such as zuerst, dann, danach and später put events in order. When one opens the sentence, the conjugated verb follows it directly and the subject comes after the verb. Zuerst ruft er: „Mimi, ich habe Fisch für dich gekauft!“(“First he calls, “Mimi, I bought fish for you!””)
  • etwas / nichts / alles etwas (‘something’), nichts (‘nothing’) and alles (‘everything’) are indefinite pronouns that can stand without a noun. Nichts passiert, und er wartet weiter auf sie.(“Nothing happens, and he continues to wait for her.”)
  • Grammatical gender and pronouns German pronouns often follow the grammatical gender of the noun. Here, die Katze is feminine, so it is referred to as sie (she). Sie ist hinter einem Baum, und er kann sie nicht sehen.(“She is behind a tree, and he cannot see her.”)
  • hinter + dative (location) hinter is a two-way preposition. With the dative it answers Wo? and marks a location, so the article becomes einem. Sie ist hinter einem Baum, und er kann sie nicht sehen.(“She is behind a tree, and he cannot see her.”)
