Wo ist die Brille?

Sonntag, 27. September 2026

Heute fährt Nora mit dem Bus zu ihrer Mutter.
Sie hat ein neues Buch und will im Bus lesen.
Aber sie ist traurig, denn ihre Brille ist nicht in ihrer Tasche.
Sie fragt die Frau neben ihr: „Entschuldigung, haben Sie vielleicht meine Brille gesehen?“
Die Frau fragt: „Haben Sie schon in den Taschen Ihrer Jacke gesucht?“
Nora schaut nach, findet die Brille und ist wieder glücklich.

Grammar / Notes

  • wollen + infinitive wollen expresses a wish or intention (‘want to’). In a main-clause statement, the conjugated modal stands in second position and the infinitive goes to the end. Sie hat ein neues Buch und will im Bus lesen.(“She has a new book and wants to read on the bus.”)
  • V2 after a time or place expression In a declarative main clause, the conjugated verb stands in second position. When a time or place expression comes first, the subject follows the verb: Heute arbeite ich zu Hause. Heute fährt Nora mit dem Bus zu ihrer Mutter.(“Today Nora is taking the bus to her mother.”)
  • denn (because) denn joins two main clauses and gives a reason. After denn, normal main-clause word order remains: the conjugated verb stays in second position. Aber sie ist traurig, denn ihre Brille ist nicht in ihrer Tasche.(“But she is sad because her glasses are not in her bag.”)
  • mit + dative mit always takes the dative, whatever it describes, so the article after it becomes dem. Heute fährt Nora mit dem Bus zu ihrer Mutter.(“Today Nora is taking the bus to her mother.”)

English

Where Are the Glasses?

Today Nora is taking the bus to her mother.
She has a new book and wants to read on the bus.
But she is sad because her glasses are not in her bag.
She asks the woman next to her, “Excuse me, have you perhaps seen my glasses?”
The woman asks, “Have you already looked in the pockets of your jacket?”
Nora checks, finds the glasses and is happy again.
