Das kurze Bett

Montag, 28. September 2026

Endlich ist Herr Fischer in seinem Hotel.
Die Fahrt war sehr lang und er möchte jetzt in seinem Zimmer schlafen.
Aber dort sieht er ein Problem.
Er findet das Zimmer schön, aber das Bett ist zu kurz für ihn.
Es ist leider nicht so lang wie sein Bett zu Hause.
Er ruft die Rezeption an und sagt: „Können Sie mir bitte helfen? Ich brauche ein langes Bett.“

Grammar / Notes

  • finden + object + adjective finden with an accusative object and an adjective gives a simple opinion: Ich finde den Film gut means ‘I think the film is good’. Er findet das Zimmer schön, aber das Bett ist zu kurz für ihn.(“He finds the room beautiful, but the bed is too short for him.”)
  • so … wie (as … as) so + adjective + wie compares two things as equal: so alt wie means ‘as old as’. In this basic pattern, the adjective has no ending. Es ist leider nicht so lang wie sein Bett zu Hause.(“Unfortunately, it is not as long as his bed at home.”)
  • können + infinitive können expresses ability or possibility (‘can’). The conjugated modal stands in second position in a main-clause statement and the infinitive moves to the end of the clause. Er ruft die Rezeption an und sagt: „Können Sie mir bitte helfen? Ich brauche ein langes Bett.“(“He calls the reception and says: ‘Can you please help me? I need a long bed.’”)
